The sprites are also getting there- with clothes, expressions, maybe poses, and color left to do.

Tuesday Mini-Update! 10/28

Yoyoyo totally not dead, just a bit busy! It’s been a while. ♥ Here’s some progress on the big poster-sort image! As soon as I’m finished with this and the other piece of promotional art, I’ll be updating the big post on LSF and also making the secret character.. public. No use hiding it, right? :D

Anyway, I don’t have an exact number, but I estimate that the script is at about 20k at this point? And probably nearly finished as long as I don’t dig myself my own grave with another path or something crazy extravagant (==“). Though I’m pretty sure I learned my lesson. With the number of times that I’ve re-written the new guy? Oh yeah.

Also also also!! It might have been last week that our wonderful composer finished making preliminary tracks of all the general music in the game and we’re currently talking about some extra stuff ;) So look out for that! It’s gonna be cool!

Monday Update #3! 10/6

A WIP of a new game banner and a fake game cover for Happily Ever After! They’re pretty crappy at the moment, but I hope I can fix things up as I start to line them. And yes, that is Miss Inventor making an appearance in the lower corner!

- Our composer has given me his permission to post WIP pieces, so my own will is the only thing that can keep me from doing so. I will do just that in another post a little bit after class so that I can figure out which one to post ;v; Please look forward to it!

I’m pretty excited to share, but I don’t want to give everything away, since the game is pretty simple on its own!

- Hidden route is moving along much more smoothly now, though I’m not sure how the new scenario will be received. Fortunately, I went back and just changed a few details around so they fit into the new thing I have for him, so not too much has been lost. I just have to remind myself that I just have to write the story and not worry about what other people will think xD

- Three sprites are like… nekkid finished. The poses are all done, I just need to draw clothing on top of their bodies and expressions on their faces. I only have Kael left to do and maybe Miss Inventor if I feel the motivation to do so.

- UI is practically done. Once the textbox and save/load screen are coded in, all I’ll have left to worry about are the yes/no prompts. *whew*

Mini Update 9/28 - Schedule notice?

*sigh* Busy week. But, I hope y'all are doing well~

Sorry, no tacky banner this week! I need to decrease the frequency of my large updates because of school. With that said, it’ll be bi-weekly updates from now on for the sake of my sanity. Some notes for this week that sh/could be expanded on next week or so:

Commiczar has been a delight to work with and he’s on track 3 of the OST! Ahh everything he’s made so far sounds really nice and in the end, the music may end up being the only redeeming quality of the game hahaha

- Ughh as much as it pains me, hidden route material dump #2. The old scenario has gotten difficult to write and the only thing I can think of to do is scrap it completely and start over. ([rant] like seriously why does my brain do this to me. It’s either start over or have it sit untouched forever. As much as I’d like to feel lazy, I want to get the script finished. I guess it’s kind of nice to have a fresh start so I can implement some new ideas, but… ngh… all my hard work… Looks like I’m just going to have to suck it up![/rant])

- Sprite progress is looking good! UI progress is right up there. It seems the colors are still a big problem, but I’ll put off fixing it until I get it to alpha.

- ¼ Extras material is complete… hehe.

(Late Sunday*) Monday Morning Update #2! 9/22

I really hope that these Monday morning updates won’t become a thing.. maybe I should ease up on these things and post them biweekly?

I'ts just that I get so excited with progress sometimes //sobs

- Some exciting news this week! The Happily Ever After crew has been joined by a composer!! Specifically, Commiczar from LSF. It’s a fairly recent development, but judging from what he’s given me so far, the soundtrack for the game will be nice and fitting! I’m excited to be working with him! Hopefully, he’ll stick around for the long run! :)

- I’ve finally thrown caution to the wind and began coding in the GUI! I spent a generous amount of time simply staring at the .psd file then at leon’s imagebutton example and crying in anxiety. But, once I got down and dirty, things didn’t seem as bad as I had expected! There were some frustrations with the title’s moving about, as it was not what I intended (and my ATL knowledge is nil), but in the end, I think the results and experience are well worth the hand cramping. I guess you could even say I went a bit crazy with the animation thing.;;

- Word count is finally at 18,322 after two busy weeks, so I’m pretty happy with the progress xD Considering all the other things going on with this game and school, I feel like it’s right on track for the December release!

(Late Sunday*) Monday Morning Update! 9/15

Hmmm… Morning updates are difficult.. my mind does not work how it should at this time haha… Hope you all are doing all right!

- A lot of progress being made for this project has moved to art assets for the time being, as I’m still contemplating releasing a demo of sorts.. But that’s why there is no word count in this update. However, I’ve kinda designed the main menu and settings screens as well as finished sketching out the sprites for the game.

Igor’s revamp came out of nowhere, but I’m a lot happier with his design. I felt like his old design was suspiciously similar to Kael’s anyway (and I designed Kael first, so I wasn’t going to change him, haha). It won’t affect his personality, though. xD

- The name of the game has changed because I’m awful at naming and “First Doki” was a placeholder this whole time until I found what I really wanted. Now the game has a nice, clean title that fits it’s purpose… Simple name for a simple game!

Fun fact, I was going to go with some other really nerdy names like “Romance Dilettante” and “Confession++” (because C++ haha..ha) and more that are… haha.. bad.. But decided on “First Doki” just because it sort of explains what happens in the game, I guess. ;)

That’s really it for this update! The tacky update banner kind of makes it sounds like I lot; I guess I got carried away with writing it. It’s a lot of progress for me, in any case!

Happy back to school!

- Work on the script has slowed down on behalf of classes starting up again, but progress has been made nonetheless. Since I wrote the scenarios up without thinking about how to fit them in with menus, I did end up spending a lot of time trying to figure that out before writing any more, though! Which could be good or bad, considering it takes time out of writing, but I’d say everything’s just fine.

- I’m thinking of scrapping Charlene’s sprite. I actually finished half of it back in August, but just recently finished the second pose. The more I look at it, I have changed her hairstyle a bit. I think I’m going to do it. In other news, Kael’s sprite sketch is finished!

Sunday Update #2! 8/31

Cool! We’ve gotten to the second update in one piece! xD A few things this week:

- I’ve started working on Charlene’s sprite, but I’m going to see if I can experiment with the style a bit to make drawing them easier/faster but still managing to look good… I have something in mind but I’ll try again once I get some more of the written down.

- The word count hasn’t gone up too much. The lint showed me it’s still at 16,553 words (even though I feel like I’ve written a novel…) Then again, I did have to scrap a huge amount of hidden route material because it was hideous lol

This makes things at just about 45~50% on all the routes (Kael, Charlene, Igor and the hidden character).

- Sorry, what was that? Hidden route? Yup, the hidden route is here to stay! I may be making more work for myself but eeeeeehhhhhhhhh the heart wants what the heart wants lmao
